Christopher Reeve’s Son Sneaks In Homage To Dad At ‘Superman’ Premiere

Will Reeve, the son of late Superman: The Movie star Christopher Reeve, found an inventive way to honor his father during a red carpet appearance for director’s James Gunn’s new movie version of the DC superhero.

Christopher Reeve, of course, played Superman/Clark Kent in the 1978 superhero classic Superman: The Movie and reprised the dual role for three sequels.

Sadly, Reeve died in October of 2004 at age 52, nine years after he was paralyzed from the neck down after he was thrown headfirst from a horse during an equestrian competition. Less than two years later, Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve’s wife and mother of Will Reeve, died at age 44 from cancer.

Will Reeve went on to become a television reporter and currently works as a correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America. In Superman — opening in theaters this week — Will Reeve, appropriately plays a reporter in a cameo appearance.

“I’m not sure I had known that going in. It just made it more special,” Will Reeve told GMA. “I do have a connection to this character, this franchise and movie through my dad. He defined the role for so many people for so many years. So, to be walking literally in his footsteps was something special to me.”

While Reeve told GMA that his cameo appearance in Superman is small, he said audience members definitely noticed him when he popped up on the big screen.

“People kept congratulating me, [saying] ‘You did great! Congrats on this film.’ I was like, ‘Guys, save that for David and Rachel and Nick and James!’” Reeve told GMA, smiling. “I show up for just a second but it was a really nice homage to my family’s connection to the franchise and the role.”

Superman plays in Thursday previews before opening in theaters nationwide on Friday. In 2024, Reeve appeared with his half-siblings Matthew Reeve and Alexandra Reeve Givens in the acclaimed documentary feature Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.
