Chris Stapleton’s New Single More Than Doubles Its Sales

F1 needed only a few days to be named the No. 1 movie in America. The Brad Pitt-fronted racing film scored a huge opening weekend, and it is turning out to be just the summer blockbuster it was meant to be.

Its accompanying musical effort, the F1 soundtrack, took a little longer to reach the Billboard rankings, as the project debuts across multiple tallies this week. Several tunes from the full-length are either new to the rankings or return, including one by one of the most respected musicians in country music.

“Bad as I Used to Be” Debuts as a Bestseller

Chris Stapleton joined the F1 family and contributed the original track “Bad as I Used to Be,” which is featured both on the album and in the film itself. While the song was originally released in mid-May — about a month before F1 hit theaters — “Bad as I Used to Be” appears on the Country Digital Song Sales chart for the first time this week, seemingly bolstered by all the excitement surrounding the movie. The track opens at No. 12 on the list of the bestselling country tracks in the United States, earning Stapleton his thirty-third career placement on the tally.

Sales Grow By 141%

Luminate reports that during the past tracking period, “Bad as I Used to Be” racked up a little more than 1,700 pure purchases. That total was almost enough to send the cut to the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart, but it just barely missed out. Purchases of the Stapleton tune grew by 1,000 copies from one frame to the next, marking a 141% increase.

Chris Stapleton Joins Doja Cat, Don Toliver and Tate McRae

Stapleton is one of several musicians who appear on Billboard’s song rankings with F1 tracks. Doja Cat and Don Toliver’s “Lose My Mind,” the first single from the project, finally arrives on both of the company’s global rankings. Dom Dolla’s “No Room for a Saint” with Nathan Nicholson reappears on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs tally, reentering at No. 17, a new all-time high. Tate McRae’s “Just Keep Watching” also remains a big hit a month after its release, landing inside the top 10 on lists like the Hot Dance/Pop Songs tally.

F1 Almost Hits No. 1 in America

F1 itself just misses out on becoming the No. 1 title on the Soundtracks ranking, where it launches at No. 2. The same movie-based release starts at No. 9 on the Vinyl Albums chart, and it opens inside the top 20 on the Billboard 200, Top Album Sales list, and Top Streaming Albums rankings, coming in at Nos. 13, 14, and 19, respectively.
