Chelsea are ready to make FC Barcelona an offer to sign their midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the current transfer window after first convincing the player to join them.
The clubs have been rivals in the market in recent weeks, with Barca beating the Londoners to the signature of former Leeds United winger Raphinha and ex-Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

Still looking to make a marquee signing under their new ownership, however, Chelsea haven’t been dissuaded from doing business with Barca altogether and are now looking to sign their midfielder Frenkie de Jong according to several reports.
Mundo Deportivo say that there is no official offer from Chelsea for De Jong yet, and unlike Manchester United, the Blues will work on convincing the player to switch allegiances first.
By reportedly having a proposal accepted by Barca, then have De Jong turn them down due to not being able to provide him with games in the Champions League, Chelsea’s domestic rivals have been left severely embarrassed in the football world by the 25-year-old giving them the cold shoulder.

Though MD note that De Jong remains intent on staying put this summer, these factors could swing in Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel’s favor and see him boast De Jong in his first team squad in the coming weeks.
Over at The Athletic, however, they say that Chelsea are in direct contact with Barcelona about De Jong and are ‘optimistic’ about striking a deal for him.
With De Jong finally gone, Barca could also raid Manchester City for Bernardo Silva, who is Xavi Hernandez’s only remaining target after president Joan Laporta got deals for Raphinha, Lewandowski and Kounde over the line last month.
