BTS’s Jimin Scores The No. 1 Selling Song In America…Again

Just ahead of the release of his debut solo project, Jimin treated fans to a new single, “Set Me Free Pt. 2,” and they rushed to support him. Now, they have collectively sent the tune right to No. 1 on an important Billboard chart.

“Set Me Free Pt. 2” debuts at No. 1 on this week’s Digital Song Sales chart, according to Billboard. This ranking tracks the tunes that actually sold the most copies in the U.S. each frame, which is different from the Hot 100, which takes into account radio play, streams, and other forms of consumption.

Jimin is back at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart this week as “Set Me Free Pt. 2” launches with a sizable debut, selling just over 62,500 copies, according to data shared by Luminate. That’s quite a bit more than the No. 2 song this time around, Taylor Swift’s surprise cut “All of the Girls You Loved Before,” which launches with just over 17,500 copies sold.

This is not the first time the BTS superstar has reached the summit on the Digital Song Sales chart. He first made it to No. 1 last year when he joined fellow musician Ha Sung-woon on his track “With You,” which topped the tally.

Jimin came close to earning a second champion earlier this year when he and Taeyang sent their collaborative single “Vibe” all the way to No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart, missing the throne by just one space. Jimin has also appeared on the ranking entirely on his own, but this week marks the first time one of his solo efforts has broken into the top 10, and certainly climbed the peak.

The more than 62,000 copies “Set Me Free Pt. 2” sold in the song’s first week of availability were instrumental in sending the single to the Hot 100 this frame. The track debuts at No. 30, a height rarely seen by solo K-pop acts. While Jimin’s single likely didn’t perform terribly well at radio or streaming-wise, its massive sales sum made up for that in many ways.
