Jimin has enjoyed a massive year in 2023, achieving great success both as a member of the globally acclaimed group BTS and as a solo artist. With a No. 1 song on the Hot 100 and a breakout hit with his debut EP Face, Jimin’s career has skyrocketed this year, and he shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, there is a possibility that he might land another hit on the Hot 100 chart in short order with the same song he recently sent to the tally.
The BTS superstar recently joined an impressive lineup on the track “Angel Pt. 1,” which was written and recorded for the soundtrack of the movie Fast X. Only weeks after “Angel Pt. 1” debuted on the charts, it was revealed that a new version of the tune was in the works. An announcement on social media from the Fast X movie’s official accounts disclosed that Charlie Puth would be taking over for the rappers, adding a new twist to the song. The pop star joining in on the fun is great, but what might be even more significant for Jimin is the subtle name change that could make all the difference.
The new iteration of the track has been named “Angel Pt. 2.” This slight alteration in the title might be sufficient for Billboard to consider it a separate release. Typically, when a remix is released, it retains the same name as the original, even if the featured artists are different. In those cases, Billboard aggregates all versions into one entity, which can be advantageous for driving a single smash up the charts. However, it does not come in handy if an artist is looking to increase their total number of placements on a ranking, as opposed to altering the peak.
If Billboard does count “Angel Pt. 2” as a distinct release, there is a high probability that it will perform well on the charts. Given the immense popularity and influence of BTS, anything associated with one of its seven members tends to sell immediately. This track record increases the likelihood of “Angel Pt. 2” reaching the Hot 100. Jimin’s devoted fans have consistently shown up in full force to support his endeavors, and they will likely play a significant role in its success.
Although “Angel Pt. 2” does not have a confirmed release date as of yet, it is expected to drop in the near future, possibly within days or weeks. The timing of its release will likely be carefully planned to ensure it remains closely tied to the original announcement and doesn’t lose momentum.
