BTS’s Jimin Blocked From Returning To No. 1 On The Charts By Homophobes

BTS singer Jimin’s recent release “Angel Pt. 1” disappeared from the Billboard charts almost as quickly as it arrived, and now it’s back in a notable way. Sadly, his ascent back to No. 1 has been hindered by the emergence of a new homophobic single that garnered even greater sales numbers.

In a bid to build on the success of “Angel Pt. 1,” a new version of the cut titled “Angel Pt. 2” was released, featuring some changes to the original track. Not only did it receive a new name, but the updated remix also saw rappers NLE Choppa and Kodak Black be replaced by pop singer Charlie Puth. Both versions of the song feature the talents of Muni Long, Jvke and Jimin.

“Angel Pt. 1” initially debuted at No. 1 on several Billboard charts, including the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and Rap Digital Song Sales lists. With the re-release, Jimin and his collaborators aimed to reclaim the top spot, but narrowly missed it. “Angel Pt. 2” secured the runner-up position on both of these rankings, ultimately being blocked by the new release that promotes homophobia.

The song responsible for hindering Jimin’s return to No. 1 is titled “Reclaim The Rainbow” and is performed by musicians Bryson Gray, Jimmy Levy and Shemeka Michelle. This controversial track debuts at the top of both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and Rap Digital Song Sales charts, though exact sales figures hadn’t been released by the time of publishing.

Accompanied by a low-budget video, the song attempts to portray Pride celebrations and the acceptance of the LGBTQ community in a negative light. It heavily references religion, as well as various celebrities and politicians, in an effort to make some kind of point.

Despite the setback, “Angel Pt. 1” has managed to regain popularity and re-enter the top 10 on several Billboard sales-only charts. Its strong sales performance has also allowed it to make a comeback on the coveted Hot 100, currently occupying the No. 95 spot after originally peaking at No. 65 for one frame.
