BTS Star Jung Kook’s Debut Is Already A Historic Win On The Pop Radio Chart

Jung Kook, one of the members of global sensation BTS, saw his debut solo single “Seven” achieve some pretty incredible things when it debuted on the Billboard charts. The tune hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, ranked as one of the top sellers of the week and even proved itself to be a historic win on the Pop Airplay chart from the moment it arrived.

Currently, “Seven” still reigns over the Hot 100 chart as Billboard’s top-ranking track, but this may change soon as the latest winner, Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town,” takes over. Nevertheless, Jung Kook’s solo hit did manage to also make history on the Pop Airplay chart simply by launching as high as it did.

Just a week ago, “Seven” made its official debut on the Pop Airplay chart, which highlights the songs that reach the widest audience at pop radio stations across America. The single entered the chart at No. 33 (out of 40 spots), immediately securing its place as the fourth-highest-charting song by a South Korean solo artist in the chart’s history.

Psy holds the current record for the highest-charting track on the Pop Airplay list by a South Korean musician working independently. His iconic hit, “Gangnam Style,” reached a peak position of No. 10, and he remains the only star from that nation to break into the top 10 on his own.

Jung Kook earned some major success on the Pop Airplay chart before “Seven,” and his previous smash climbed much, much higher. His collaboration with Charlie Puth, “Left and Right,” reached No. 11, narrowly missing the top 10.

Also included in this rundown of successful South Korean soloists on the Pop Airplay chart is Bibi, a singer and actress, whose joint single with alternative rapper 347aidan, “The Weeknd,” climbed to No. 31 a little over a year ago.

Jung Kook’s “Seven” currently sits at No. 33 on the Pop Airplay chart, but it could very well ascend even higher once Billboard updates its lists, which are currently delayed due to a processing issue. As it arrives, Jung Kook’s latest success reshuffles the order, as it replaces two other tracks that were tied as the fourth-highest-charting tunes by or featuring South Korean solo artists.

Lisa, a member of the renowned girl group Blackpink, once achieved the fourth-highest-charting position with her solo track “Money,” while fellow BTS star Jimin, along with Kodak Black, NLE Choppa, Jvke, and Muni Long, secured the spot with “Angel Pt. 1” earlier this year. Both stalling at No. 35. Now, the two hits rank as the fifth-highest-charting among all solo musicians from South Korea.
