With the Kevin Durant saga behind them — for now — the Brooklyn Nets are filling out their roster to make a run for an NBA championship.
The Nets have agreed to a one-year deal with forward Markieff Morris, according to The Athletic. NBA insider Marc Stein on Substack previously said the sides were in
“advanced discussions.” With Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge no longer in the fold, the Nets are in the market for another big man.
The 6-foot-8 former Kansas forward averaged 7.6 points in 17 games last season in Miami while battling injuries. He suffered a neck injury after initiating an altercation with Nikola Jokic that also led to a $50,000 fine.
He has averaged 10.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in his career and is a 34% 3-point shooter.
The Nets on Sunday announced the signing of 6-8 forward Yuta Watanabe averaged 4.3 points and 2.4 rebounds in 11.7 minutes per game last year with Toronto and has career averages of 3.8 points and 2.5 boards.
The Nets will run it back with Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons as their “Big 3,” along with a supporting cast featuring a healthy Joe Harris, Seth Curry, Patty Mills, Nic Claxton and newcomers T.J. Warren and Royce O’Neale.
Brooklyn still has one Two-Way Contract available after signing Wake Forest’s Alondes Williams and three Exhibit-10 slots for training camp, per the NY Post.
The Nets will host media day Sept. 27 and begin training camp the following day.
