Born Again’ Season 2 Appears To Be Reassembling The Defenders

After escaping a somewhat butchered script and concept near the end of season 1, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will have more freedom, and apparently, even more of a connection to the Netflix series of old.

It’s already been officially announced that Krysten Ritter is returning to the universe as Jessica Jones after her show ran for three seasons ending in 2015. Now it appears Daredevil may be reassembling the rest of The Defenders.

The two missing pieces are Mike Coulter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’s Iron Fist, who both appear to be in New York at the same time, and also at the same time Daredevil: Born Again is filming. They’re also liking each other’s posts, and such.

Both actors have expressed an interest in returning as those characters in the MCU:

• Mike Coulter, two months ago: “I still have hopes for it. I don’t think about it anymore. I think there’s always time. I don’t think it’s impossible. Anything can happen.”
• Finn Jones, also two months ago: “I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it…give me a f*cking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready, and I wanna prove people wrong.”

At that point, it’s unclear if they were already on board or if they got a call afterward. Again, none of this is confirmed, but Daredevil has a history of extreme leaks when it comes to what’s going on with the series, so we’ll see.

After the success of Born Again, it seems likely that Marvel may move forward with more “street-level” content that will both please fans and be cheaper than huge productions like Secret Invasion. Ironheart is about to air in a month, and it does not seem like it’s part of this plan given that it was crafted years ago and delayed for a long while before finally arriving.

Would Marvel bring all the Netflix shows back? That may be a stretch. We know Punisher is getting an “event” which is a smaller feature. But I’d be a little surprised if more than say, one of those other characters got a full show back (my guess is Jessica Jones as Marvel Head of TV Brad Winterbaum has talked about how much he likes the character).

Again, it’s not even confirmed that Luke Cage and Iron Fist are showing up, but if so, I would expect that to fully leak soon, as Daredevil production doesn’t really even try to hide this stuff.
