Body Found After I-95 Collapse In Philadelphia

Rescue workers discovered a body Monday afternoon in the wreckage of a fuel truck that went up in flames Sunday morning underneath an overpass of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia, causing a section of the major highway to collapse and another to become structurally unsound.

The body was found when rescue workers searched through a pile of rubble, though the identity of the person has not been released, the Pennsylvania State Police confirmed to Forbes.

Authorities turned the body over to the Philadelphia County Medical Examiner and Coroner’s office.

The northbound section of the interstate between exits 30 and 32 north of downtown Philadelphia collapsed after a truck carrying gasoline caught fire on an underpass directly underneath the highway, causing “remarkable devastation” and prompting officials to close both directions of the highway.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) issued a disaster declaration Monday afternoon.

This is a developing story.
