‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ To Conclude With Season 5 At CBS

CBS announced that Chuck Lorre comedy Bob Hearts Abishola will conclude on Monday, May 13 after five seasons. Debuting on September 23, 2019, the ensemble sitcom follows the love story of Bob (Billy Gardell), a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit, who unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, Abishola (Folake Olowofoyeku), a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack.

“We are so proud to call Bob Hearts Abishola a CBS comedy as it helped establish a new generation of programming at the Network,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment in a statement. “This series expertly showcased a family love story and workplace comedy about the immigrant experience with heartfelt humor and emotion while also authentically portraying Nigerian culture. It’s a testament to the incomparable Chuck Lorre, the amazing creative team led by Al Higgins, Gina Yashere and Matt Ross, and the talents of Billy Gardell, Folake Olowofoyeku and the entire cast for making this show and its characters come to life and resonate with viewers. We plan to celebrate it this spring and give fans the most amazing episodes to remember it by.”

Bob Hearts Abishola is about an unlikely love story, but also the premise that immigrants make America great,” said executive producers Gina Yashere, Matt Ross and Chuck Lorre in a statement. “We’ve loved bringing these stories to life and are excited for fans to see the final chapter of these two families, and the incredible work of this talented cast and crew.”

The conclusion of Bob Hearts Abishola comes on the heels of announcing the pending ending, also this spring, of The Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon, another Chuck Lorre production. Unless CBS picks up another Lorre comedy for next season, this will be the first time he has not had at least one show on the Eye network since 2003. In addition to Bob Hearts Abishola, The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, Lorre also produced Two and a Half Men, Mom, B Positive, United States of Al and Mike & Molly, which featured Billy Gardell.

At present, Lorre is the force behind the new comedy Bookie on Max, which begins streaming on November 30.
