Blink-182 Reunite With Tom DeLonge And Announce Massive 2023 World Tour

Pop punk icons Blink-182 announced a massive reunion tour for 2023 featuring the band’s original lineup with guitarist/vocalist, Tom DeLonge. In 2015 DeLonge exited the band and was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, who toured with the band extensively throughout the last decade.

Earlier this year, Skiba revealed he wasn’t certain if he was still a part of the band and rumors that Blink-182 would be reuniting with DeLonge started to grow.

The band confirmed Tuesday morning both the tour and official reunion with DeLonge in a comedic and raunchy video, along with a teaser for their new song “Edging” releasing this Friday. The band also confirmed that they will be releasing a new album next year, marking the band’s first album with DeLonge since 2011’s Neighborhoods.

DeLonge exited the band in 2015 for reasons that weren’t clear at the time. However, he later expressed that he stepped away from Blink-182 to pursue his interest in UFO’s. Since then, DeLong cofounded the organization To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science, seeking to “reach transformative discoveries within our reach that will revolutionize the human experience.”

Overall, it’s unclear if Blink-182’s world tour will be directly supporting the release of the new record or if the album tour-cycle will follow the 2023 tour. Either way, the band has announced tour dates that stretch well into 2024, so at the very least we can expect Blink-182 to be actively touring throughout the next two years.

Regarding the tour, Blink-182 has also announced support acts for each leg of the 2023 tour feature some of rock’s top tier bands, both new and old.

Offering support for the entire U.S. leg is the Baltimore hardcore outfit Turnstile, who’ve only gotten massive over the last year thanks to the release of their eclectic masterpiece, Glow On. It’s both exciting and surprising to see Turnstile continue to tread upwards in the scene, especially given their rather niche roots as hardcore band.

Turnstile’s growth as it pertains to audience/venue sizes has increased dramatically over the last year — the band is currently on tour performing at 6,000 cap venues with several shows already being sold out. That being said, while Blink-182 is somewhat of a legacy act at this point, it’s nice to see them paying it forward to a band who may well be their next-gen counterpart in the future.

Alongside all of the Blink-182’s news, the emo-punk festival When We Were Young, revealed dates and a new lineup for 2023. The festival announced dates for October of next year with over 50 bands scheduled to perform alongside headliners Blink-182 and Green Day. This announcement comes only two weeks before the festival is slated to debut with emo legends My Chemical Romance and Paramore.
