Blake Shelton Turns Chair For The Last Time On ‘The Voice’: ‘I’m Finished!’

Blake Shelton just marked the end of an era on “The Voice.”

Season 23 of the singing competition is the final one for the founding coach, and Tuesday night’s episode marked a major milestone — the very last time the country crooner will ever hit his red button, turn his chair around and select a singer in the show’s blind auditions.

It was an emotional moment for Shelton and for the teen he picked for his team.

The momentous occasion kicked off when Grace West took to the stage to belt out a classic Pam Tillis hit, “Maybe It Was Memphis,” as all four coaches — Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan — sat with their chairs facing away from her.

But it didn’t take long for Shelton to take notice.

As soon as the 19-year-old started singing, the panel’s resident country music expert smiled and mouthed the lyrics, and before West could finish singing the word “Memphis” in the chorus, Shelton slapped his red button and spun around to see contestant. The other coaches weren’t far behind him in smashing their own buttons, but Shelton made sure to maintain West’s attention as he continued to lip-sync along with her.

And when it came time for all the coaches to try to convince her to join them for the season, Shelton made a strong plea.

“I actually hear Pam Tillis in your voice,” the 46-year-old said. “I have one spot left on my team. I would be honored if you would join the last Team Blake as the last person I will ever hit this freakin’ worn out button for.”

Shelton’s words even seem to sway his toughest competitor on the panel.

“I 100 percent believe in you,” Clarkson told West. “I can’t wait to see what you do on the show, and I can’t even believe I’m doing this, but it’s his last team. I will say, Blake is a great coach for you.”

West obviously agreed with her, picking Shelton with little hesitation.

“Yes! That’s it,” Shelton shouted as he jumped out of his chair. ““I’m finished! I’m never doing that again!”

He later told host Carson Daly why his last pick sparked such a big reaction.

“I don’t normally get wrapped up in these moments, but when I hit my button for Grace, who ended up being the last person that I’ll ever do that for, I was like, ‘Oh!'” a choked up Shelton said. “I felt myself. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe I just said that.’ I kind of got emotional, you know? And I knew coming into this I was trying to take all the moments in, and it’s going by so fast. So when I said that out loud, it was, like, it became real.”

Shelton, who met wife Gwen Stefani during his tenure on “The Voice,” first revealed that this would be his final season back in October.

“I’ve been wrestling with this for a while, and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from ‘The Voice’ after season 23,” he said in a statement. “This show has changed my life in every way for the better, and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns, and I want to thank everyone at ‘The Voice’ from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people; you are the best.”
