Blackpink’s Jennie Ties Her Bandmate Lisa With Her New Hit Single

Jennie has spent much of 2023 establishing herself as a breakout star from Blackpink. She proved her talents as an actor in the TV show The Idol and then once again as a musical artist outside the band that made her a global favorite. Now, with another chart hit to her credit in one of the biggest music markets in the world, she’s tied one of her bandmates for a special bit of history.

Jennie is back on the U.K. singles chart this week, though even some who watch the ranking may have missed her. The singer debuts at No. 100 with “One of the Girls.” The track is fronted by The Weeknd and also features actor and singer Lily-Rose Depp, and it was written and recorded for use in The Idol, which has since been canceled.

While “One of the Girls” might be in last place on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.K., the fact that it’s reached the tally at all is momentous. The tune marks Jennie’s second trip to the chart, and with a new hit, she’s matched an all-time record.

Jennie now jointly claims the record for the most chart hits by solo female South Korean artists in U.K. history. She shares this spot with her Blackpink bandmate Lisa, as both have managed a pair of smashes on the roster.

“One of the Girls” follows closely behind Jennie’s first chart hit in the U.K., “You & Me.” That cut debuted and peaked at No. 39 on the same ranking back in October.

Fellow Blackpink star Lisa became the first solo female artist from South Korea to place more than one track onto the U.K. singles chart. Back in 2021, she launched her solo career with a pair of tunes, and both eventually worked their way to the ranking. “Lalisa” rose as high as No. 68, while “Money” climbed even higher, peaking at No. 46.

Blackpink has thus far pushed 10 different tracks to the singles chart in the U.K. That’s the second-most appearances on the list among all K-pop acts, coming in behind only BTS. That septet has snagged 22 wins on the chart.
