Billy Joel’s catalog is more successful at the moment than it has been in quite a long time. The piano man had his life and career story told in a two-part docuseries that aired on HBO in July called Billy Joel: And So It Goes. The program proved to be incredibly popular and, thanks to its success, his music has been performing extraordinarily well on streaming platforms and even selling well once more.
In the United Kingdom, one of Joel’s most popular compilations is in the midst of a major comeback as fans rediscover his work.
Billy Joel’s Album Returns to Three Charts
Piano Man – The Very Best Of returns to three tallies in the region, spurred on by renewed attention generated by the docuseries. The compilation reappears highest on the Official Album Downloads chart, coming in at No. 16. The title relaunches in lower spots on both the Official Album Sales and Official Physical Albums rankings, reentering at Nos. 89 and 92, respectively.
Piano Man Surges on Multiple Other Lists
Piano Man can now be found on five U.K.-focused rankings. In addition to the three it returns to, the compilation rises nearly 10 spaces on the Official Albums chart, which focuses on the most consumed titles. The set is also a big winner on sites like Spotify and Apple Music, as Joel’s project leaps from No. 30 to No. 26 on the Official Albums Streaming list. That marks a new all-time high for the hits-packed release.
Billy Joel’s Top 10 Success
Piano Man has previously cracked the top 10 on two of the five charts where it currently appears. It climbed highest on the Official Physical Albums list, peaking at No. 5, while its lowest high point ended up on the Official Album Sales roster, where it narrowly found space inside the top 40 by once lifting to No. 39.
Billy Joel’s Time on the Charts
The length of time Piano Man has spent on each list varies widely. The compilation has spent the fewest weeks on the Official Album Sales chart, with just 21 appearances on the 100-spot ranking. It has racked up 316 turns on the Official Albums roster and 284 on the streaming tally, as it regularly appeared on those rosters even before the release of the docuseries.
