Billy Joel Announces The End Of His Madison Square Garden Residency

All good things come to an end, even those that seem like they never will.

On Thursday (June 1), Billy Joel and representatives from Madison Square Garden
MSG
Entertainment and NYC Mayor Eric Adams came together for a press conference and jointly declared that the renowned singer will conclude his unprecedented run of shows at the legendary New York City venue in July of 2024.

Joel started his residency in 2014, so he’s planning on ending it after a decade of successful performances. The piano player and singer will wrap it all up next summer on his 104th show in the series. When all is said and done, he’ll have headlined 150 performances throughout his career at the renowned New York venue.

The undeniable appeal of Joel’s residency at the Garden is evident when taking into account the staggering number of tickets sold, as the total has now surpassed 1.6 million.

Set to begin on October 20, the final 10-show run of Billy Joel’s residency at the Garden is sure to be one of the hottest tickets to get, as demand will likely be higher than ever. The general public can begin purchasing tickets for the final shows starting on June 9 at 10 AM EST via Ticketmaster.

Joel’s residency at Madison Square Garden was initially announced in December 2013. Since the first performance back in January 2014, the chart-topper has set numerous records at the iconic venue, and he’s not done yet.

What makes the success of Joel’s residency that much more shocking is the fact that he is not regularly releasing new music to play. All attendees just want to hear his back catalog of massive hits, as the superstar largely retired from making new tunes decades ago, though he still has enough well-known singles to power this residency.

For those who can’t make it to MSG, Joel does have other concerts lined up, so it seems he will continue to perform elsewhere.
