President Joe Biden’s take on appointment for vacant Fed Governor’s seats was to be filled by Economists. In this regard, Economists Lisa Cook and Philip Jefferson have been approached. Also, Sarah Bloom Raskin also was tapped for the Supervision for Federal Reserves as Vice-Chairperson. Lisa Cook was an economic advisor at the time of Barack Obama’s presidency, she’s also a faculty member at Michigan State University. Philip Jefferson was a research economist in the Federal Reserves at the time when Sarah Bloom Raskins was governor. And Sarah was a former Governor as already mentioned.
Out of seven seats in the group of governors, two are vacant and need to be filled. In that regard, Lisa and Jefferson are nominated. President has said about them that the three are having experience in Feds, Judgments about it and integrity that will lead the Federal Reserves and it will help in building US’ economy back to better for working class. He further stated that Cook’s and Jefferson’s experience on Economic issues is of decades and Raskin holds the potential to be among the most qualified nominees for Vice-Chairperson for federal reserves supervision.

The role of Vice-chair for supervision is new in itself. It will be opposite to the Federal Reserve Board of governor’ vice-chair. It was proposed in the year 2010 and first-person boarded in 2017. For the first full term of four years from 2017 to 2021, Randal Quarls was the vice chair for supervision. The need for appointments for these vacant posts originated because of expiration of the term and some resignation of some board members. Other than Sarah being vice chair for supervision, Jerome Powell will be chairperson and Leal Brainard will serve as vice-president at FED. If chosen and elected, their tenure will last till 2026. The change in financial institutions’ top leadership, surely impacts the situation of crypto and Blockchain in the US.
