Bianca Belair beat Asuka in an unbelievable WrestleMania match.
Both Belair and Asuka had great entrances, with Asuka incorporating clones while Belair used a Black girls dance troupe.
Belair and Asuka had a tough act to follow after Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair messed around and had the greatest women’s match in WrestleMania history. A distinction Bianca Belair had alongside Becky Lynch as recently as one year ago at WrestleMania 38. Belair and Asuka had all the talent on paper to do just that, and if they didn’t, they came as close as anybody will.
Following her latest win, Belair is now 3-0 in singles matches at WrestleMania. The only thing close to a loss on her record was the WrestleMania women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34. Belair continues to be a one-woman Black history machine in WWE. After becoming the first Black woman to main event WrestleMania alongside Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37, Belair recently surpassed MVP as the longest-reigning Black champion in WWE history. Belair relished in both accomplishments equally, and does not take pride in one over the other.
“They’re all equally great in their own way. Of course main eventing WrestleMania 37 is always going to live in my heart, because that’s what really jumpstarted my career. So to go to WrestleMania for one of the first times, and main event and be a part of something that’s bigger than you, it’s hard to top. But now being the longest-reigning Black champion in WWE history, it’s amazing. Both are an honor, and I’m just happy to be the person who’s put in this position.”
In an interview with Candace Cordelia of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, Belair explained how she intends to make a dedicated effort to inspire others while her spotlight is at its brightest.
“For me, it’s just all about…finding my ‘why,’” Belair said.
“My ‘why’ is to inspire people. I know my role models changed the whole trajectory of my life, so I just want to give that back to everyone else and inspire them and just continue to change the perspective of [the] female wrestler. We are everything. We’re not just wrestlers. We are athletes. We are performers. We are activists. We are representation.”
Belair now eyes Becky Lynch’s record as the longest-reigning Raw women’s champion. Belair just passed Day 365 as champion, and is a handful of months from eclipsing Lynch’s staggering 544-day record. Given Belair’s history of making history, the smart money says Bianca takes down Becky’s record next.
