Ajay Devgn’s new Hindi film Bholaa has grossed $7.3 million worldwide over the first extended weekend which spread over four days. The film made a gross earning of $6.4 million in India in the first weekend and has grossed a total of $8.03 million in five days since the release. Starring Devgn in the lead role, Bholaa also features Tabu, Sanjay Mishra and Deepak Dobriyal in important roles.
After making an opening of $1.3 million in India, Bholaa saw a small dip in the collections and collected a littlt less than $1 million on the second day. By the third day, Bholaa has grossed $5.4 million worldwide, and $4.5 million in India. The weekend collections in India crossed $1 million each on Saturday and Sunday, amounting to a total of $5.9 million in India.
Talking about the film’s business, PVR Ltd CEO Gautam Dutta said, “We are thrilled to see how well Bholaa is doing at the box office. The movie has become a hit among the audience for its excellent storytelling, fantastic performances and of course, the thrill. People are also highly excited to witness the powerful duo of Ajay Devgn and Tabu once again after the two Drishyam films. Devgn has done not just fantastic job as an actor but as a director too and the efforts of the cast shine through.”
Bholaa is an oficial Hindi remake of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s 2019 Tamil hit Kaithi. Kanagaraj wrote and directed the original. He also wrote the new Hindi film, which is directed by Devgn who has also co-produced the film. Devgn has produced Bholaa under his banner Ajay Devgn FFilms, alongwith Reliance Entertainment, T-Series Films, and Dream Warrior Pictures.The original film was also a hit at the ticket windows in India and made collections roughly amounting to $14 million. Karthi Sivakumar played the lead role in Kaithi.
Devgn has also featured in the lead role in Bholaa that he has directed and produced. The new film introduces several new aspects (in addition to the basic plotline). These include quirky traits and a few character arcs that add to the uniqueness of Bholaa.
Meanwhile, Telugu film Dasara is creating waves across India. Starring Nani in the lead role, the film has collected roughly over the past four days since its release. Globally, Dasara has grossed $11 million. It also features Keerthy Suresh, Sai Kumar and Shine Tom Chacko in important roles. Dasara released in four languages apart from Telugu – Hindi, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.
In response to the footfalls that Dasara is attracting in movie theatres in the Hindi-sepaking regions in India, producers of the film – SLV Cinemas – have reduced the ticket prices. Movie goers can watch the Hindi version of Dasara at just $1.36 starting Monday (April 3) to Thursday (April 6).
Dasara made an impressive gross opening of $4.7 million worldwide. With that figure, the film is the highest opener ever for Telugu star Nani. The film is directed by debutante Srikanth Odela.
