Beyoncé, Steve Lacy & ‘Bruno’ For Record Of The Year

Record of the Year is considered the top prize at the Grammys by many, as it represents what voters feel was the single best song of the eligibility period, with what qualifies something as “best” being very much up to interpretation. The nominees list is usually filled with major hits from the biggest names in the business, and the trophy often goes to a huge smash the world remembers…though not always!

This year, it seems like the 10 available spots will be filled largely by chart-toppers, or at least songs that made a huge commercial impact. It looks like pop will dominate, though what that genre sounds like is drastically different from one possible nominee to the next.

As is always the case, there appear to be a number of tracks that are all bust assured to be nominated for Record of the Year. Adele’s “Easy on Me,” Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul,” and Harry Styles’ “As It Was” are the clear frontrunners at the moment. There are a handful of other Hot 100 No. 1 smashes that will almost surely be included as well, such as winners by Lizzo, Steve Lacy, Jack Harlow, and Coldplay and BTS, though these are the spaces that could end up being claimed by surprise nominees.

Earlier in 2022, it seemed like “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was a shoo-in for a nomination, which is not common for soundtrack cuts. It was a cultural moment and an enormous No. 1 single, but has too much time passed since it conquered the charts? The remaining spaces could be claimed by stars like Doja Cat and Kendrick Lamar, or voters might opt for any of the worthy titles below.

Also Possible:

ABBA (“Don’t Shut Me Down”), Bad Bunny (“Después de la Playa”), Billie Eilish (“TV”), Brandi Carlile (“You and Me On the Rock”), Future (“Wait 4 U [ft. Drake & Tems]”), Imagine Dragons and JID (“Enemy”), Joji (“Glimpse Of Us”), Lady Gaga (“Hold My Hand”), Taylor Swift (“All Too Well [10 Minute Version] [Taylor’s Version] [From the Vault]”), and Zach Bryan (“Something in the Orange”).

The nominees for the 2023 Grammys will be announced on November 15.
