Nobody outdoes Beyoncé, not even Taylor Swift.
A film based on Beyoncé’s immensely successful Renaissance World Tour is reportedly coming to movie theaters later this year. The singer is apparently in advanced talks to distribute the film directly to AMC Theatres via the company, according to sources familiar with the project. The news was first reported by Variety.
According to the article, the movie will give a behind-the-scenes look into the string of concerts, which already ranks as one of the top-grossing of the year. Hollywood agency CAA is reportedly handling the negotiations around the as-yet-untitled film, and bidding for the rights to work with the superstar are expected to begin at some point soon.
Perhaps most exciting about this new Beyoncé project is the fact that it will reportedly feature at least parts of the visuals the singer filmed for her album Renaissance. The Grammy winner teased music video-style content associated with the full-length around the time the full-length dropped, but the full visuals were never released.
Getting tickets to the Renaissance World Tour was nearly impossible, as demand was much greater than supply. Beyoncé’s trek was one of several this past summer that caused headaches for those attempting to buy passes and which took over social media after nearly every show.
Insiders who spoke to Variety have indicated that the movie will aim for a wide release on or around December 1. In August, it was reported that director Nadia Lee Cohen had secretly filmed a project with Beyoncé, and it seems almost certain that this is what the two worked on together.
This deal with Beyoncé follows in the footsteps of Taylor Swift’s recent agreement for a similar concert film based on her blockbuster trek The Eras Tour. She is also working with AMC for the high-profile movie, which is coming to theaters in October. That movie is expected to break box office records for a concert film, perhaps racking up as much bas $100 million at the box office in its first weekend in theaters. If that number does prove to be true, it will make the upcoming Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour the highest-grossing concert movie of all time after only a matter of days.
