At this point in her career, Beyoncé seems to only be competing with herself. This week, she beats her own best showing on Billboard’s most important and competitive songs chart with a tune that has turned out to be her sturdiest hit.
Billboard reports that as of this week, “Cuff It” is now Beyoncé’s longest-charting song on the Hot 100. That weekly ranking of the most-consumed tracks in the U.S., using a methodology combining sales, streams, and radio play. According to the music magazine and chart company, the smash has now lived on the tally for 34 weeks.
Coincidentally, this frame, “Cuff It” places at No. 34. That’s up slightly from last time around, when it sat at No. 36. The single peaked at No. 6, giving the star yet another top 10 on the tally.
With another turn on the Hot 100, “Cuff It” breaks out of its tie with “Telephone” as Beyoncé’s longest-running Hot 100 winner. That tune, which was fronted by Lady Gaga and featured Bey, spent 33 weeks on the chart more than a decade ago.
Billboard also points out that “Cuff It” is Beyoncé’s fifth song to spend at least 30 weeks on the Hot 100. In addition to “Telephone,” it also joins “Halo” (31 weeks) as well as both “Irreplaceable” and “Mi Gente” with J Balvin and Willy William (30 each).
“Cuff It” was promoted as the second official single from Beyoncé’s latest album Renaissance. It followed in the footsteps of “Break My Soul” which worked its way to No. 1 on the Hot 100. The tune was propelled back toward the top of the tally after the singer-songwriter shared an inventive remix, which many fans purchased and streamed. Billboard often groups all versions of a title as one entity, so anything that renews interest in a song, such as a remix, helps it remain on the ranking longer.
