Bayern Munich have reportedly named their asking price for wantaway right back Benjamin Pavard.
The Russia 2018 World Cup winner with France has fallen out of favor with first team manager Hansi Flick in recent times due to his alleged refusal to play the position.
The 26-year-old wishes to star as a central defender too, and is apparently refusing to extend his contract which expires in 2024 meaning Bayern’s last chance to cash on him would be in the summer or a year from now when he would be even cheaper.
Pavard’s plight in Bavaria has also been complicated by the arrival of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, which led the Frenchman to supposedly offering his services to FC Barcelona in the recently closed January window.
Facing difficulties to navigate La Liga’s salary cap and Financial Fair Play regulations, however, the Blaugrana had no chance of acquiring Pavard for the rest of the 2022/2023 season.
Already thinking to next term, though, Bayern have reportedly named their asking price for Pavard according to Sport1, as relayed by SPORT.
This is €30mn ($33mn), which if handed over by the Catalans or another interested party in Inter Milan, would help finance the triggering of an optional purchase clause of €70mn ($77mn) for Cancelo.
Given their shortage of options at right back, Barca should consider meeting Bayern’s demands for Pavard given his age, top level experience, and achievements which also include lifting the Champions League.
With Sergio Roberto reportedly on the cusp of signing another contract extension, Xavi Hernandez doesn’t have many players at his disposal in this area of the pitch.
Jules Kounde has been filling in and doing a sterling job there so that Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo can form a formidable partnership in central defense.
If one of them becomes injured, however, Kounde will have to provide cover and is one day expected to move into the middle full time.
Should Pavard truly wish to join Barca, though, he has to show flexibility and demonstrate that he is prepared to play wherever Xavi needs him as Kounde has done time and again without protest.
