FC Barcelona’s players are “p*ssed off” with Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr for his attitude in Wednesday’s edition of El Clasico where the Catalans were knocked out of the Copa del Rey semi-finals, according to SPORT.
The Brazilian was pivotal in a 4-0 second leg win that put Los Blancos through to the final 4-1 on aggregate and was the worst defeat inflicted on the Blaugrana by their bitter rivals at Camp Nou in 60 years.
Scoring the opener in first half stoppage time on the counter attack, Vinicius provided an assist for Karim Benzema to complete his second hat trick since Sunday.
Rather than let his football do the talking, however, the 22-year-old was involved in tussles with Gavi, Ferran Torres and Ronald Araujo who tired of his constant provocation of Barca’s fans and players and pushed him to the ground.
Television cameras caught Vinicius telling Torres he is a “terrible player” while having to be dragged away by his colleagues so as not to get sent off following a yellow card he picked up for clashing with Gavi.
In the mixed zone following the match, Araujo advised Vinicius to concentrate more on his game than winding up members of the opposition.
Initially confessing that he got a little hot headed because Vinicius “was talking to my teammates all the time, messing with them”, Araujo explained how: “I always say that he is a great player who will improve much more if he focuses on playing.”
Now, on Thursday afternoon, SPORT has reported that Barca’s stars are “p*ssed off” with Vinicius for his attitude at a time when relations between players of the two rival teams have been respectful and cordial.
According to the Catalan daily newspaper, Barca’s stars “did not understand the attitude of Vinicius from the first minute”, which saw him confronting several Blaugrana players and “launching very derogatory comments”.
After five of them in 2022/2023, Wednesday’s meeting was the last Clasico of the season. That might be better for all concerned, however, so that Vinicius can cool off and think about how he approaches his fellow professionals in the world’s biggest derby.
