Here’s a weird observation about Baldur’s Gate 3: None of the companions you can befriend and have join your party are little. Not a single party member is a dwarf or a gnome or a halfling. It’s very perplexing!
Sure, not all of D&D’s races are represented in the half dozen or so companions you come across—there are also no Dragonborn or half-orc party members, for instance—but it’s strange that basically every one of your best buddies is the same size and shape.
Maybe this has to do with sex. You can bed pretty much anyone and everyone in this game. It’s a very, very horny game, perhaps the horniest RPG ever made. Maybe Larian Studios didn’t want to deal with different sized lovers. But that doesn’t really make sense, either, since you can play as a dwarf, gnome or halfling.
I’m not really sure why the game left out little people, but it’s kind of weird and definitely a problem. Not problematic, mind you. I’m not complaining about representation or leveling accusations at Larian for being evil or bigoted. I just think it’s a pretty big oversight that leaves your party feeling, well, rather samey in some ways.
I’d like a dwarf companion. I’d like to flirt with a gnome. I wouldn’t mind a tumble in the hay with a halfling. My Tiefling bard isn’t picky about height. But alas, all my companions are 5’11”.
Otherwise, it’s a pretty good game!
