For some time now, Bailey Zimmerman has stood out as one of the most exciting new names in the music industry. This week is special, as he hits a prestigious new high on Billboard’s most competitive chart…and in doing so, he also manages to make history.
This week, Zimmerman’s single “Rock and a Hard Place” breaks into the Hot 100’s top 10 for the first time. The tune lifts just one space, improving from No. 11 to No. 10. It’s his first song to find its way to the region.
“Rock and a Hard Place” needed 41 weeks to rise to the top 10. Not only is that length of time unusual, it’s actually never happened before. According to Billboard, Zimmerman’s smash now holds the record for the longest climb to the top 10 for any track by a solo musician in the company’s history.
Looking at all musical acts, only one single needed even more time to make it to the top tier. Glass Animals saw their hit “Heat Waves” break the top 10 in its forty-second week on the Hot 100. That song eventually climbed to No. 1, making history once again when it did.
“Rock and a Hard Place” has been a big hit in the country world for weeks, and it has been slowly gaining ground with the masses. This week, the tune rules the Country Airplay chart, reaching the summit for the first time. It’s Zimmerman’s second leader on that important ranking.
It also sits at No. 16 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart (its previously-set high point). “Rock and a Hard Place” rises to No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart this frame, and it is currently being kept back from running the show by Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night.”
