Atlanta Hawks Fire General Manager Landry Fields

The Atlanta Hawks have parted ways with general manager Landry Fields after three seasons. After the Hawks overtime loss at the hands of the Miami Heat in this year’s play-in game, it capped off yet another year of being sent home from the play-in. Hawks ownership decided they were upset over the lack of team progress and moved on from Fields, and promoted Onsi Saleh to general manager.

During his Hawks tenure, Fields made numerous positive moves to try and dig Atlanta out of the hole they were in due to the Dejounte Murray trade. Fields traded Murray in a package that got Atlanta a return of Larry Nance Jr, and Dyson Daniels, along with a first round pick and a pick swap. Daniels, who was considered a throw-in when this deal was made, has blossomed into one of the NBA’s premier defenders, leading the league in total steals and steals per game, and being a finalist for the defensive player of the year award as well.

Fields was also responsible for selecting Zacharie Risacher with the first overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Risacher is averaging 12.6 points per game, and he is a finalist for this year’s rookie of the year award. Atlanta seemed to be moving in the right direction from a roster standpoint, but Fields was still ultimately relieved of his duties.
