BTS is back in charge of the Hot Trending Songs chart, Billboard’s weekly ranking of the titles the world can’t stop talking about on Twitter. The South Korean band returns to the summit on the social-focused list with their global smash “Butter,” which continues to be a topic of discussion, even though it’s been out for more than half a year now,
As “Butter” finds its way back to the Hot Trending Songs chart’s throne, the tune ties with one other title as the biggest hit in the ranking’s history, evening things out again.
Last week, “Bazinga” by the musical outfit SB19 broke out of its tie with BTS’s “Butter” and officially became the longest-running leader in the still-very-short history of the Hot Trending Songs chart. “Bazinga” became the first track to make it to seven frames atop the list, and fans of the Filipino boy band, as well as the quintet themselves, all celebrated. This frame, that trending tune slips from No. 1 to No. 2, not falling very far from where it ranked last time around.
“Butter” and “Bazinga” are now tied with one another again as the two tunes with the most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Hot Trending Songs chart. The pair have both racked up seven turns in first place on the roster, and either one of them could wind up in the spotlight next frame. Looking at Billboard’s real-time chart that measures the most-talked-about songs on Twitter, it looks like BTS’s Hot 100 leadr is winning, and it could soon become an eight-frame champion.
Since Billboard unveiled the Hot Trending Songs chart back in October 2021, and the first leader was BTS’s “Permission to Dance.” That tune only managed one turn on the throne before it was replaced by the same band’s “Butter.” Eventually, “Bazinga” toppled the K-pop titans, scoring just the third-ever No. 1 hit on the fresh ranking. To date, only three cuts have managed to climb to the summit, and now BTS and SB19 seem like they will continue to trade hosting duties on the list.
