Armie Hammer Won’t Face Sexual Assault Charges, Prosecutors Say

Topline

Prosecutors in Los Angeles will not charge actor Armie Hammer with sexual assault, they announced Wednesday, wrapping up a years-long probe into a 2021 rape allegation that came amid accusations of abuse from multiple women.

Key Facts

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office decided “there is insufficient evidence” to charge the actor, citing “the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter,” spokesperson Tiffiny Blacknell said.

Blacknell wrote in a statement the office conducted an “extremely thorough review” but ultimately decided it can’t prove sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt.

A Los Angeles Police Department investigation into Hammer first became public in 2021, after a woman identified as Effie said Hammer raped her in 2017.

An attorney for Hammer—who has denied the allegations—did not comment to Forbes.

This is a developing story; it will be updated.
