Ariana Grande is in the midst of a very exciting period on the music charts in the United Kingdom. Some frames the pop superstar can be located on one or two tallies, while at other times, it seems she’s the biggest thing in the country – even if she’s not currently promoting any new music.
As a pair of half-decade-old tracks launch across a number of rankings in the U.K. and earn the singer and actress new top 10 hits, several other favorites among her fans return to the weekly rankings.
“Positions” and “Popular” Return Together
Two smashes by Grande find their way back to the Official Physical Singles chart, and one nearly dominates the list. “Positions” breaks back onto the ranking of the bestselling tracks available on any physical format, be it CD, cassette, or vinyl, in the runner-up spot. That’s a new peak for the title track from one of Grande’s most successful albums, Positions.
“Popular,” which is one of the – well, most popular – tunes from the first Wicked film reappears on the sales ranking at No. 56. The solo cut once topped out in the same position where “Positions” lands this week.
“Dandelion” and “Defying Gravity” Surge Into the Top 20
Two tracks find their way back to the Official Vinyl Singles chart, which is slightly more specific than the Official Physical Singles roster. While neither reaches the top 10, both “Dandelion” and “Defying Gravity,” a collaboration with Cynthia Erivo, reappear suddenly inside the top 20. “Dandelion,” a solo number taken from the singer’s latest full-length, Eternal Sunshine, narrowly misses the highest tier as it settles at No. 11, while the Grammy-nominated “Defying Gravity” is back at No. 16.
“34+35” And “Positions” Reenter the Same Tally Simultaneously
The Academy Award-nominated actress sees a pair of singles find their way back to the Official Singles Sales chart, which looks at the bestselling cuts throughout the U.K., regardless of genre, language, or how fans purchased them. “34+35” and “Positions” sit side-by-side, reentering the competitive tally at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively.
“Positions” misses its all-time high of No. 3 by a few spots, while “34+35” becomes Grande’s twenty-fourth career top 10 hit as it establishes a never-before-seen peak.
Ariana Grande Earns New No. 1s on Multiple Charts
While both “34+35” and “Positions” return, they also debut on lists they’ve never settled on in the past. “34+35” opens at No. 1 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles lists, earning Grande a fourth champion.
The singer-songwriter blocks herself from the summit on both lists. “Positions” surges back onto the physical ranking at No. 2, while debuting in the same spot on the Official Vinyl Singles tally.
“Supernatural,” “Twilight Zone” and “Hampstead”
A handful of additional songs by Grande are on the rise, and each one lifts a number of spaces, if not several dozen spots, from where they sat last time around. “Supernatural” returns to the top 10 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart, and it is followed closely by “Twilight Zone” and “Hampstead,” as the three tunes appear at Nos. 10, 12, and 13, respectively.
Those songs don’t trail by much on the Official Physical Singles list, as “Supernatural” improves to No. 13, with “Twilight Zone” appearing at No. 14 and “Hampstead” at No. 16.
Ariana Grande Dominates One U.K. Chart
Grande may be the most successful artist on the Official Physical Singles chart this week, depending on how one qualifies such a distinction. Eight different hits by the singer and movie star appear on the tally. With the exception of “Popular,” they all take up space inside the top 20.
