People may not believe that artificial intelligence (AI) is better than a human brain, but it is undeniable that these programmes are simply brilliant. ChatGPT is being used to complete and edit code, write articles, explain Excel formulae among other interesting things. DALL-E creates beautiful images based on simple instructions fed by the user.
TIME magazine wrote an article detailing the significance of AI in the metaverse. Virtual spaces are gaining a lot of traction lately with companies like Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia and more engaging in the development of immersive digital worlds for users.
The pros and cons of AI in Metaverse
According to TIME, AI may be useful in creating new worlds in the metaverse. Text to 3D generators like DreamFusion, Make-A-Video, DALL-E and more are already being touted as revolutionary.
AI has the potential to change workflows in several aspects of our lives, TIME reported. The World Economic Forum (WEF) believes the same regarding metaverse. The organization noted that workers will be able to control the repair bots from the safety of their desks. It could enhance urban planning for engineers and more.
Digital spaces will be full of virtual humans apart from the real people in their digital avatars in the metaverse. TIME noted that these AI beings will be similar to the non-playable characters (NPCs) we encounter in video games. The only difference would be that the virtual humans will respond more organically, thanks to machine learning.
The article also pointed towards potential risks associated with the metaverse. One such risk is people finding it hard to differentiate between real users and bots. You might be talking to a metaverse bot and not realize whether it’s a bot or the avatar of another being. Another risk is identity fraud in the metaverse as machine learning would make it easier to create an identical avatar associated with the original user.
Nevertheless, no matter how futuristic and mind-blowing all this may sound, the metaverse has a long journey ahead. No matter how far we’ve come in terms of technology, it’s not enough to bring a full-fledged metaverse into the mainstream.
With proper utilization of tech like 5G and 6G, graphics rendering, machine learning and more, tech giants would be able to deliver a genuinely immersive metaverse to the users.
