Máximo and the gang from Las Colinas resort are coming back for another season. Apple
Acapulco will begin production on the second season this spring, with cast and crew again filming on location in Mexico.
The charming nostalgic comedy stars Eugenio Derbez, who this week won a SAG Award as part of the ensemble cast of the Apple original film CODA.
Through flashbacks, Acapulco tells the rags to riches story of Máximo Gallardo. Enrique Arrizón portrays the young version of Máximo, whose dream comes true when he gets the job of a lifetime as a cabana boy at Las Colinas, the hottest resort in Acapulco in the 1980s. Derbez plays the present day billionaire who shares with his nephew Hugo (Raphael Alejandro) the memories of his youth that led to his success.
Season two picks up where season one ended. In 1985, Máximo has to deal with upheaval at the resort, unexpected problems at home, and a new love interest who just might rival the girl of his dreams.
There’s also an added twist. Present day, older Máximo goes back to Acapulco, where he will face many people from his past. Will we get to find out what happened to his first love? What about his best friend? How did he become a billionaire?
In addition to Derbez and Arrizón, the entire cast returns for season 2, including Fernando Carsa, Damián Alcázar, Camila Pérez, Chord Overstreet, Vanessa Bauche, Regina Reynoso, Raphael Alejandro, Jessica Collins, Rafael Cebrián, Regina Orozco and Carlos Corona.
Season 1 debuted on Apple TV+ on October 8, 2021. The finale was December 3. No word yet on when we can expect to see the premiere of season 2.
Acapulco is produced for Apple by Lionsgate Television, 3Pas Studios and The Tannenbaum Company. The series is created by Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman. Chris Harris serves as showrunner. Winsberg, Cisneros, Shuman and Harris also serve as executive producers on the project. Jay Karas serves as an executive producer and director.
In addition to starring, Derbez serves as executive producer alongside Ben Odell and co-producer Sonia Gambaro on behalf of 3Pas Studios. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum executive produce along with Jason Wang on behalf of The Tannenbaum Company.
