Meta Apes, one of the most anticipated Web3 games of 2022, is the first game to launch on BNB’s new Binance Application Sidechain (BAS) architecture, Invezz learned from a press release.
The game being launched by Ankr is derived from the popular Age of Apes mobile game. The purpose of the launch is to encourage existing fans of Age of Apes to switch to Meta Apes, which deploys the very best elements of its forerunner on a much more modern ecosystem.

Building unique sidechains
Ankr is introducing the first BAS in history through Meta Apes. This means developers can create blockchains (sidechains) designed to suit unique application needs. It also means they can design an infinite number of test networks mimicking the live chain being played on.
This affords improved scalability and more accurate testing and deployment. Transactions fees will be negligible to non-existent.
Stanley Wu, Ankr CTO, commented:
When we saw what was happening with BSC we got worried. So as one of their main infrastructure partners we stepped in and helped.
Web3 features to enhance Meta Apes
New Web3 features will include NFT characters, in-game cryptocurrencies, and true digital ownership. Ankr will convert Meta Apes to Web3 via a software development kit, another first in the industry.
Ankr CMO Greg Gopman added:
The launch of Meta Apes is significant in many ways. First, it’s set to be a massive blockbuster! Not only for the gameplay but also because it’s the leading instance of a game built on BAS. Second, developers should be really excited about these powerful new capabilities and the ecosystem building around it. We expect to see an explosion of games this year using our SDK to easily convert from Web2 games to Web3. Lastly, sidechains can be applied to many industries aside from gaming and we are at the start of a technological revolution.
The main infrastructure partner for Polygon, Binance, Fantom
As a key Web3 infrastructure provider, Ankr partners with leading blockchains like Polygon (MATIC/USD), Binance (BNB/USD), and Fantom (FTM/USD). Among BNB Chain’s core infrastructure, which it built are the Archive Node and the Erigon upgrades.
