David, an animated biblical movie from Angel Studios, is coming to digital streaming this week.
Directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes, David opened in theaters nationwide on Dec. 19. The official summary for the film reads, “From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion.
“When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward. Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage — culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom.”
Rated PG, David stars the voices of Phil Wickham as David, Brandon Engman as the young version of David and Brian Stivale as Samuel.
David is set to be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Jan. 27, a new listing on Prime Video confirms. David will be available on a variety of different digital platforms, including Apple TV and Fandango at Home.
David is listed for pre-order for purchase for $24.99. Since new films on PVOD typically run $5 less than purchase prices, David should be available to rent for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.
How Was ‘David’ Received By Audiences And Critics?
David to date has earned $79.2 million in domestic ticket sales and $1.8 million internationally for a worldwide box office gross of $81 million. The film had a production budget of $60.9 million before marketing costs, according to box office tracker The Numbers.
David earned a 76% “fresh” critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 46 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “David is as likable as its scrappy hero, offsetting its predictability with gorgeously animated backgrounds and a universally appreciable moral.”
In addition, David earned a 98% “fresh” Popcornmeter score on RT based on 2,500-plus verified user ratings.
The audience summary for the film on RT reads, “David is an amazing retelling of an inspiring biblical story that, while centered on themes of courage, values, and faith, also provides ample entertainment and memorable music.”
Rated PG, David is new on PVOD on Tuesday.
