Ethereum vs Bitcoin: Analysts Split on Market Leadership Outlook

As market dynamics evolve in mid-2025, top analysts have offered diverging views on the outlook for Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC) over the coming year.

Crypto trader Michaël van de Poppe has expressed confidence in Ethereum’s performance relative to Bitcoin. In a tweet posted on June 2, he stated:

“Over the course of the next 12–24 months I assume ETH will outperform Bitcoin.”

Van de Poppe has historically leaned bullish on altcoins during periods of Bitcoin consolidation, and this latest view reinforces that stance heading into the second half of 2025.

Rekt Capital: Bitcoin Dominance Positioned for Upside

On the other hand, analyst Rekt Capital sees Bitcoin’s dominance growing. In a post supported by a long-term chart, he noted that BTC dominance has successfully retested the 64% level as support, signaling potential for further gains.

“BTC DOM looks positioned for more upside towards the 71% area over time,” he wrote.

The chart highlights historical resistance zones and a potential continuation pattern, suggesting that altcoins could remain under pressure unless dominance weakens.

Rekt also acknowledged that minor dips in BTC dominance could allow short-term altcoin moves but maintained that the overall trend favors Bitcoin.

Market Implication: Rotation or Consolidation Ahead?

With Van de Poppe anticipating Ethereum’s outperformance and Rekt Capital favoring sustained Bitcoin dominance, the debate highlights the current uncertainty in market structure. Whether Ethereum can decouple or altcoins can surge amid rising BTC dominance remains a key narrative to watch in the coming months.
