A man evaded guards and entered the home of Jake Sullivan, who serves as President Biden’s national security advisor, in April, prompting an investigation by the Secret Service, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
Key Facts
The unidentified intruder entered Sullivan’s home in Washington, D.C., at 3 a.m. two weeks ago, according to the Post, which cited government officials.
Sullivan reportedly confronted the man, who appeared to be intoxicated and did not seem to know Sullivan or want to harm him.
There was no sign of forced entry and Secret Service agents, who guard Sullivan’s house 24/7, according to the Post, were unaware of the incident until Sullivan went outside and alerted them.
The man left Sullivan’s home before the Secret Service agents were made aware of his intrusion, the officials told the Post.
Forbes reached out to the White House and the Secret Service for comment.
Key Background
Secret Service protection was increased to cover the homes of national security advisors in 2021 after an Iranian operative plotted to kill former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton. The news also comes the day after a man entered the office of Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly and attacked two staff members with a metal baseball bat. Connolly said Monday there needs to be more security funding for Congress members’ offices. Additionally, in October 2022, a man entered the San Francisco home of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacked her husband, Paul, with a hammer, hospitalizing him.
