All ‘Modern Warfare 2’ Campaign Challenges And Rewards Explained

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II is out in Early Access at the moment—well, the single-player campaign is, in any case. Anyone who pre-ordered can get an early jump on the campaign, and earn quite a few multiplayer rewards by playing it.

All of this is kind of a genius move on Infinity Ward’s part. Many people simply never play the campaign, jumping right into multiplayer once the game launches. With the campaign releasing a week ahead of time, more people will play it—and it’s well worth your time. I finished the campaign on ‘Hardened’ difficulty yesterday and it was a lot of fun—a massive return to form after last year’s Vanguard debacle.

Call Of Duty campaigns are kind of a unique part of gaming—massively expensive, AAA shooters that are highly cinematic and graphically impressive, but eschew the open-world design of so many other games these days. These campaigns are relatively short and linear and I absolutely have a soft-spot for them for all these reasons.

The other way Infinity Ward and Activision are incentivizing players to play (and hopefully complete) the single-player campaign is through a series of challenges and rewards. By completing missions in the game, you unlock a bunch of stuff for Multiplayer including calling cards, emblems, XP tokens and even Operators.

Here’s the full list of rewards and how to unlock them in the campaign:

  • ‘Soap’s Determination’ calling card – complete ‘Strike’ mission
  • ‘What’s Done Is Done’ emblem – complete ‘Kill or Capture’ mission
  • 30 Minute Double XP Token – complete ‘Wetwork’ mission
  • 30 Minute Double Weapon XP Token – complete ‘Tradecraft’ mission
  • ‘Chainlinked’ calling card – complete ‘Borderline’ mission
  • Chuy Base Operator – complete ‘Cartel Protection’ mission
  • 30 Minute Double XP Token – complete ‘Close Air’ mission
  • 30 Minute Double Weapon XP Token – complete ‘Hardpoint’ mission
  • ‘Gaz’ calling card – complete ‘Recon By Fire’ mission
  • Nova Base Operator – complete ‘Violence And Training’ mission
  • 1 Hour Double XP Token – complete ‘El Sin Nombre’ mission
  • 1 Hour Double Weapon XP Token – complete ‘Dark Water’ mission
  • ‘Shadow Company Ops’ calling card – complete ‘Alone’ mission
  • Reyes Base Operator – complete ‘Prison Break’ mission
  • 1 Hour Double XP Token – complete ‘Hindsight’ mission
  • 1 Hour Double Weapon XP Token – complete ‘Ghost Team’ mission
  • Hutch Base Operator – complete ‘Countdown’ mission
  • Union Guard weapon blueprint – complete the campaign

That Union Guard weapon blueprint is the best of the bunch. It’s Captain Price’s signature weapon, and you have to beat the whole game to unlock it. The blueprint comes with four pre-equipped attachments: the Aim OP-V4 Reflex Optic, the SZ 1MW PEQ Laser, the FSS Covert V Silencer on the Muzzle, and the Lockgrip Precision-40 Underbarrel Vertical Grip.

This makes the assault rifle an all-around great starting weapon for multiplayer, Warzone 2.0 and the DMZ, as well as upcoming Raids.

Modern Warfare II’s full multiplayer experience launches on October 28th.
