Alaïa Launches Resale In Partnership With This Luxury Platform

Alaïa is getting into the resale game. The Richemont owned brand is partnering with French pre-loved platform Re-SEE starting with an exclusive sale of curated Alaïa vintage pieces.

The selection is available exclusively at Re-SEE.com and at Petite Boutique on Rue de Moussy in Paris, Alaïa’s under-the-radar off-season store.

In addition to items sourced from Re-SEE’s vintage curation, Alaïa Creative Director, Pieter Mulier, has chosen pieces from the Maison that underscore the link between its history and contemporary incarnation.

“This collaboration with Re-SEE is a significant initiative to put circularity into action and to celebrate the house’s fundamental commitment to fashion that endures, through exceptional craftsmanship and couture know-how,” said Alaïa CEO Myriam Serrano in a statement. “Alaïa’s creations have always been conceived and regarded as timeless pieces—more than just clothes, they are designs that one can keep for a lifetime and pass on for generations.”

Sought-after pieces on sale include a Tati dress from Spring ‘91, leopard and butterfly print pieces also from Fall ‘91 and a leather zip dress from 1986.

Tati was a collection inspired by the erstwhile Paris budget store and modeled on the runway by Naomi Campbell et al. It riffed off the signature pink and white Vichy check-print fabric associated with the chain. The Tati collection launched practically 15 years before Karl Lagerfeld’s debut with Swedish high street chain H&M in 2004.

The selection will be refreshed periodically and, moving forward, clients will be able to bring their own pre-loved Alaïa pieces to the Petite Boutique to be incorporated into the vintage collection available in-store and at ReSEE.

“Since our inception nearly 10 years ago, archival Alaïa has been a top performer for us on Re-SEE and also a passion for us to source. We could not be more thrilled to be official partners of the brand, to be able to provide our customers rich experiences and a direct line to the house. We are honored to celebrate the distinguished legacy of Mr. Alaia, alongside the vision of Mr. Mulier,” Sofia Bernardin, co-founder of Re-SEE said in a statement.

Founded in Paris in 2013, Re-SEE is the brainchild of two fashion veterans, Sofia Bernardin and Sabrina Marshall, from VOGUE and Self Service magazines. A more boutique and curated alternative to Vestiaire Collective, pieces are sourced from an international network of fashion collectors and industry insiders.

The Alaïa partnership is the latest in a wave of luxury brands keen to invest in the circular economy and tap into the lucrative secondary market.

In early 2021 Vestiaire Collective launched a partnership with Alexander McQueen. Later that year Richement’s Net-a-Porter Group launched a resale program powered by pre-owned platform Reflaunt which also powers Balenciaga’s recently launched initiative.

Valued at around $33 billion, the resale market is growing four times faster than new luxury according to a report by Bain & Co.
