After ‘Gears Of War’ It’s Time To Release ‘Halo’ On PlayStation 5

It’s been a big week for game reveals and news, with the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI, the release of an epic story trailer for that game and news that a remaster of the original Gears Of War is coming to PS5 this summer.

It’s coming to Xbox and PC as well, but the big news is the once Xbox-exclusive will be on PlayStation for the very first time. It’s another blow to the so-called “console wars” and I would love to see Sony respond in kind by releasing something like the original God Of War (remastered, of course) on Xbox. Kumbaya and all that jazz.

The game will be fully remastered “from the ground up” and free to anyone who already owns the previous remaster, Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition. It will feature 4k resolution, 120 FPS support, multiplayer, cross-progression, cross-play across all platforms and more. The price-tag will be $39.99 or free with Xbox Game Pass.

“With Gears Of War: Reloaded,” Microsoft explains on the Xbox Wire, “we’re opening the door to more players than ever.”

This is a good move on Microsoft’s part, and I’d like to see them continue down this path. It’s smart, because the company can sell more units to more players and still offer it to Xbox Game Pass subscribers for free. Hopefully the trend continues and we see Halo next. That’s certainly no longer a far-fetched idea.

It was reported last year at The Verge that a Halo remaster was in the works and would come to PlayStation as well. It was just “one game” reportedly coming to Xbox’s biggest rival, and now we have proof of another.

It would be fantastic to see Sony reciprocate with some of its classics as well. God Of War, simply for the irony, but also Killzone or Ratchet & Clank or any number of other great Sony titles from the days of yore. Demon’s Souls, perhaps, or Bloodborne. This, however, seems far less likely than Halo on PS5, even though ertainly Sony has a deeper and more varied well to draw from.

Gears Of War: Reloaded releases on August 26th of this year.
