Advocacy Group is Campaigning to Encourage U.S. Congress to Prioritize User Privacy

  • The initiative was taken to encourage new members of Congress to protect privacy rights.
  • While championing end-to-end encryption and safeguarding personal data.

On Tuesday, January 10th, Fight for the Future, a non-profit digital rights advocacy group, shared an open letter on its website with a collection of signatories in order to appeal to the new members of the United States Congress to safeguard the privacy of the users.

The letter stated the significance of the privacy of the users. It stated that most of the privacy protection tools and advanced technology software applications were made in the United States.

“Increasingly, the incredible creative power of US software developers is being chilled by clumsy, misguided legislative and regulatory actions,” the letter stated. “Should cybercriminals successfully tempt the US to abandon the human right to privacy and the US constitution, everyone will lose.”

The initiative was taken to encourage new members of Congress to protect privacy rights, champion end-to-end encryption, and safeguard personal data.

The letter noted that the U.S.-built privacy protection tools provide their services not only to U.S. journalists, protestors, abuse survivors, and traditionally marginalized people but to those residing outside America and taking advantage of the services of the tools.

The letter mentioned Zcash, MobileCoin, Filecoin, and many more communication protocol names while appealing to the politicians –“the robust digital future you should foster” – to ensure that privacy, security, access to knowledge, and freedom of expression do not get harmed by the Big Tech’s perverse economic motives or bad policies.

Lia Holland, the director of campaign and communication at Fight for the Future, said, “Lawmakers have failed to protect our digital privacy for far too long, leaving market solutions as the only practical defense anyone has against unreasonable and constant digital surveillance.”

“We need online spaces that are not owned or controlled by a single person, as they put user privacy at risk. We need tools that give individuals and communities power over their online experience.”

Why was this revolutionary action required?

The letter remarked that revolutionary actions were taken to wake the previous Congress. Because in 2022, this concern was unexpectedly neglected. But now, the advocacy group has taken the initiative not to repeat the same event in 2023. The privacy of every user is open-source blockchain organizations’ first and foremost priority.

At the time of writing, almost 38 organizations have signatures in the letter, including the Blockchain Association, DeFi Education Fund, among others.
