Across The Spider-Verse’ Looks To Dominate The Charts

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse dominated the most recent weekend’s box office, solidifying itself as one of the most successful film launches of 2023. The animated sequel opened to an impressive $120 million in ticket sales domestically. Now, the question is whether or not the associated and highly-touted soundtrack will achieve similar success.

The soundtrack album, which shares the same name as the film, was curated by American record producer Metro Boomin and was released on the same day as the movie. While the set was heavily promoted, it may not reach the same heights as its film counterpart.

Presently, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse appears to be on track for a top 10 debut on the Billboard 200, the weekly albums chart in the U.S. While this is a solid start for any release, considering the marketing efforts, the talented contributors, and the reputation of Metro Boomin, it might be slightly disappointing to some that it likely won’t rise to the No. 1 spot.

Super producer Metro Boomin, who has been behind many of the biggest hip-hop hits in recent years, leads the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack. Boomin has not only produced for other artists but has also ventured into his own successful solo career. Both of his solo albums have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and he has collaborated with various rappers on successful joint projects, with three of them reaching the top 10 and one claiming the summit.

Boomin’s current top 10 hit on the Hot 100, “Creepin’,” featuring The Weeknd and 21 Savage, further demonstrates his Midas touch when it comes to chart success. It seems that everything he touches turns to chart gold, so can he do the same for the music made for this animated superhero flick?

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack album boasts a star-studded lineup, with more than a dozen musicians lending their talents and credibility to the project. Joining forces with Boomin are renowned artists such as Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and ASAP Rocky, among others. While these artists have achieved significant chart success individually, the question remains whether their collective efforts on one album will yield the same results.

The impact of the soundtrack and its songs on the Billboard charts will become evident when the company refreshes them in a few days. Although it is expected to fall short of the No. 1 spot, trailing behind releases from Stray Kids, Morgan Wallen, and Taylor Swift, it is on the Hot 100 and the rap charts where Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may truly shine.

The soundtrack has a strong chance of conquering the rap-focused lists effortlessly and may debut at No. 1 on several of those rankings. Moreover, it is likely that many of the songs featured on the album will become some of the most-consumed hip-hop tunes in the U.S. next week. This is a cause for celebration, as too often, star-studded compilations come and go without leaving a lasting impact. Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case with this animated companion CD.
