Topline
GMA3 anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes will not be appearing on-air, executives informed staffers on Monday, according to Variety and the Washington Post, as it was recently alleged the two are involved in a romantic relationship together.
Key Facts
ABC News President Kim Godwin told staff that Robach and Holmes will not be hosting their show while the company weighs the effects of their relationship on the program, though the two have not violated any company policies, Variety and the Post reported, along with TMZ, the Daily Mail and Page Six.
ABC News “wanted to do what’s best for the organization,” Godwin said on an editorial call.
Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos will fill in Monday for Robach and Holmes, a source told Variety.
Forbes has reached out to ABC News for comment.
Key Background
Last week, tabloid the Daily Mail reported Holmes and Robach were in a relationship together, though they are both married to other people. In addition to their reporting, the Daily Mail published over two dozen photos of the anchors together on a weekend trip and on dates. ABC was not aware of the alleged relationship before it was reported on, according to the Post. GMA3 is a “news, health and lifestyle program that also highlights incredible human stories of personal triumph” that airs weekdays at 1 p.m ET. It is hosted by Robach, Holmes and Dr. Jennifer Ashton. Though Holmes and Robach have not officially commented on the rumors of their romance, the two joked about the news during Friday’s show, with Holmes making sarcastic comments about the “great week” he had. Robach is married to actor Andrew Shue, and Holmes is married to lawyer Marilee Fiebig, though it has been reported both left their spouses earlier this year.
Tangent
This is not the first time two co-anchors have allegedly fallen for each other. MSNBC anchors and Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were alleged to be in a relationship together in 2016, though Brzezinski was married to James Patrick Hoffer at the time. Scarborough and Brzezinski got married in 2018, and still host Morning Joe together. CNN’s Dana Bash and John King were married from 2008 to 2012, and both still work at the network.
