- Former MakerDAO Co-Founder, Nikolai Mushegian, died at the age of 29 in Puerto Rico.
- He reportedly died due to drowning after being dragged by sea currents close to the Condado Beach.
According to the local news El Nuevo Dia report, on October 28, 2022 morning, a 29-year-old man died after being dragged away by sea currents close to Condado Beach.
Cordado Beach is a large public-access beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico and considered a dangerous beach with strong undercurrents, a strong seaward bottom current returning the water of broken waves back out to sea.
The local Police identified the man as Nikolai Mushegian who is the Former MakerDAO Co-Founder and a Stablecoin Innovator. He further contributed to multiple crypto projects including MakerDAO, BitShares and Balancer.
It must be noted that MakerDAO is a decentralized autonomous organization that runs itself in a decentralized manner via the use of smart contracts expressed in software code and executed on the Ethereum blockchain.
The Crypto Community Reaction
Rune Christensen, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of MakerDAO also shared in his recent tweet that “Nikolai was one of the only people in the early days of Ethereum and smart contracts who was able to predict the possibility of smart contract hacks and invented the security-oriented approach to design smart contract.”
Moreover, Charles Hoskinson, Co-Founder of the blockchain engineering firm, Input Output Global, Inc., and the Cardano blockchain platform, also wrote on Twitter as “Nikolai was a very young and extremely bright man who had a very wide array of interests from game theory to urbit.”
Craig Sellars, a Blockchain Innovator and Co-Founder of Tether, further mentioned Nikolai. He added in his recent tweet that the MakerDAO Co-founder has died five days after the MakerDAO community approves custodian partnership with Coinbase.
Mr. Sellars also mentioned in the next tweet about the history of Nikolai’s contributions to the crypto community by referring to his website.
As per the Nikolai Mushegian’s website, “using game theory and cryptography, they can make peer-to-peer protocols that act as corruption-resistant alternatives to financial institutions.” Additionally, the website also added about the current and past projects.
DeFi Pulse, DeFi analytics and ranking platform, on November 1, 2022, also shared a tweet regarding this.
However, Mushegian on October 28, 2022, shared the tweet in which he hinted about the circumstances of his death.
