A New Opening For Theater Lovers

Broadway is back, along with a brand new attraction.

The Museum of Broadway, New York City’s newest museum, will be opening in the heart of Times Square on November 15, 2022, at 145 West 45th Street. The opening comes at a fortuitous time with an increasing number of post-pandemic theater goers. Some 31 shows have been playing to nearly 85% capacity in recent weeks.

This one-of-a-kind, permanent museum will feature exhibits and immersive experiences that offer a visual history of Broadway theater including dazzling costumes, props, renderings, rare photos, videos and more.

Visitors will also be able to learn about the shows that changed the landscape of American live theater and the culture at large.

Exhibits include such fan favorites as The Ziegfeld Follies, Oklahoma!, The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Rent, and more. Overall, more than 500 productions from the 1700s-present will be showcased.

Co-founders Julie Boardman and Diane Nicoletti promise that the museum will be interactive, immersive and eminently Instagrammable.

The Who’s Who of talented artists involved in developing the ambitious project includes set designers, architects illusionists, neon artists, dancers, choreographers, musicians, writers and illustrators—as well as a team of expert curators headed by Ben West.

The Museum of Broadway was founded in collaboration with Playbill, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, The Billy Rose Theatre Division at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, The Al Hirschfeld Foundation, Goodspeed Musicals, Creative Goods, and Concord Theatricals. A portion of each ticket will be donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The museum will be open for self-guided visits, with timed entry from Monday through Sunday from 10am-10pm (with the last entry at 8:30pm. A typical visit is expected to last between 1-2 hours.

Tickets start at $39, with reduced rates for groups of 10 or more and students. Check the museum website for additional details.

Broadway fans who sign up on the museum website will have priority (early) access to ticket purchase tickets today (6/17). Tickets will go on sale to the general public on June 21 at 10AM.
