Reacher is one of Amazon Prime Video’s most popular shows ever, staying inside its Top 10 list almost indefinitely, months and months after a new season airs. It will be made as long as those making it want to press forward with infinite source material and a relatively cheap budget, and now season 4 is on the way. Some news may have given us a Reacher season 4 release date, or at the very least, a release window.
- It’s now been confirmed that Reacher season 4 has ended filming.
- Reacher season 3 ended filming in November 2023, and it aired on February 20, 2025, a gap of one year and three months for post-production time.
- That would mean that if post-production time holds, we would be seeing Reacher season 4 also air in February, but in 2027. That would be two full years after season 3 aired.
What this means is that the gap between Reacher seasons is getting longer again after that time was cut down between the last two seasons.
- Season 1 – Aired February 4, 2022
- Season 2 – Aired December 15, 2023, 22 months later
- Season 3 – Aired February 20, 2025, 14 months later
The hope was that Amazon would be able to crunch these Reacher gaps down to closer to a year, rather than two years, but if everything holds, it will be two years exactly, give or take a few months. That’s kind of a bummer, and I imagine Amazon probably wants the pace picked up a little bit here.
We don’t know why there might be a delay this time around compared to season 2 to season 3, though one thing could be the escalating career of star Alan Ritchson, who has now been filming a number of movies in the last few years, Playdate, Motor City, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Ordinary Angels, Fast X and more. Now, Ritchson is frequently talking about joining the DCU, first possibly as Batman, but now he says in a different, less traditional role, possibly a villain. That would no doubt take up some time. There’s nothing at all to suggest he’s not still loving playing Reacher, but he has dreams he wants to realize alongside it, at the very least.
Reacher can run forever, and I’m sure Amazon wants it to. There are so, so many Lee Child books to adapt, which can be in any order, as is the case this time around, where the fourth season is adapting the 13th book. Child wanted people to be able to jump in at any time, and that works pretty well with the show as well. But we have to wait until 2027 for another run at the show, which is less than ideal.
