The rock band Deftones has been on a months-long winning streak when it comes to the Billboard charts, one which continues this week. The group delivered a new album titled Private Music last August, with multiple singles from the project becoming wins on various rock rankings.
All the excitement around Private Music and its Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album seems to have reminded Americans of how much they love the earliest Deftones recordings. Multiple years-old sets from the group find space on a handful of tallies in the U.S., with Around the Fur, the band’s sophomore release and breakout set, surging to new heights on multiple charts.
Around the Fur Climbs to New Peaks on Two Charts
Around the Fur currently appears on half a dozen lists published by Billboard, and it climbs to a new high point on two of them. Around the Fur performs best among all rankings in the U.S. on the Vinyl Albums chart, where Deftones climb from No. 9 to No. 4. In the title’s tenth frame on the roster, it hits a never-before-seen peak.
The same project comes within striking distance of the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart for the first time. Around the Fur inches from No. 15 to No. 12, establishing a previously-unknown best showing.
Around the Fur Ranks as One of Deftones’ Biggest Vinyl Wins
As Around the Fur jumps to fourth place on the Vinyl Albums roster, it coincidentally becomes the fourth-highest-rising project by Deftones on that format-specific list. The group collected its first (and so far only leader) in 2020 with Ohms, while both Private Music and Gore, released nearly a decade apart from one another, stalled in the runner-up spot.
Around the Fur Doesn’t Stand as One of the Band’s Bestsellers
While Around the Fur is now counted among the most successful Deftones releases on the Vinyl Albums chart, the same can’t be said when looking at the Top Album Sales list. Around the Fur is still counted as the second-lowest-peaking effort from the Grammy-winning group, and one of only three out of 10 total bestsellers to miss the top 10 entirely. Just B-Sides and Rarities stalled in a lower position, as it only ever lifted to No. 32.

Around the Fur improves its standing on all six Billboard charts where it takes up space this week, though it only surges to a new peak on one-third of them.
Deftones claim a pair of top 10 albums in the country, as Around the Fur pushes from No. 10 to No. 7 on the Top Hard Rock Albums list. The same full-length appears inside the top 40 on the Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock and Alternative Albums charts, landing at Nos. 20 and 35, respectively.
The Deftones classic sits lowest on the Billboard 200, the longest and most competitive of all albums rosters in the U.S., but that is also the tally where it improves by the greatest number of spaces. Around the Fur jumps from No. 180 to No. 158 as it celebrates 26 weeks, half a year, on the list.
White Pony Reenters the Album Sales Chart
For most Deftones fans, the focus is currently on Around the Fur, but that is not the only full-length from the rock band to mount something of a comeback. White Pony, which followed Around the Fur by three years, reappears on the Top Album Sales chart, breaking back in at No. 41. Interestingly, at the same time, it descends two spaces to No. 25 on the Top Hard Rock Albums list, falling to last place as Around the Fur steps closer and closer to the loftiest space.
