2025 Tony Awards Nominations Include George Clooney And Audra McDonald

Actors George Clooney and Audra McDonald, as well as the Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her and Maybe Happy Ending were among the big nominees for the 2025 Tony Awards, announced in New York City on Thursday.

As expected, Clooney was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for his Best Picture Oscar-nominated film-turned-Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck; while McDonald scored her record 11th Tony nomination — this time for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical — for Gypsy.

Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her and Maybe Happy Ending — all musicals — led the 2025 Tony nominations with 10 nods each.

The nominations for the 2025 Tony Awards were announced live on CBS This Morning by previous Tony winners Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce, while additional nods were announced on the Tony Awards’ YouTube channel.

While other Hollywood faces like Bob Odenkirk and Sarah Snook joined Clooney as nominees for the annual celebration of Broadway’s best, there were some notable absences among the nods, including Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal for Othello.

Also, while Odenkirk earned a Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for Glengarry Glen Ross, his co-star, A Real Pain Oscar winner Kieran Culkin, did not, nor did the show’s two other notables Bill Burr or Michael McKean.

The 78th annual Tony Awards will take place on Sunday, June 8, at Radio City Musical Hall in New York City. The Color Purple Tony Award winner and Wicked Best Actress Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo will host the event.
