US-based global payments company Stripe has officially started accepting cryptocurrency payments for US businesses again after nearly 6 years.
Back on Stage After Six Years!
Global online payments company Stripe has relaunched crypto payments for US businesses.
Stripe’s chief product officer Jeff Weinstein shared a post on his X account, introducing a new payment option that allows US businesses to accept USD Coin (USDC) from customers in over 150 countries.
“Crypto is officially back on Stripe! We’re bringing it to hundreds of thousands of US businesses today.”
Weinstein added that Stripe will initially support USDC payments over the Ethereum (ETH) Solana (SOL) and Polygon networks.
Jeremy Allaire, CEO of USDC issuer Circle, commented: “Official launch and support for USDC payments on Stripe products for US businesses. Very excited to see how this plays out!”
Stripe became the first major payments company to offer Bitcoin payment support in 2014, but the feature was discontinued in 2018 due to decreased demand due to long confirmation times, higher fees, and price volatility.
After a long hiatus of six years, Stripe has relaunched crypto payments.
Stripe recently expanded its crypto services in Europe as well, partnering with Coinbase Exchange to enable crypto purchases through its platform.
