Before the merge starts to happen, the cyber attackers are ready to attack the users’ accounts to steal funds by sending malware links to their social accounts. Scammers are coming up with innovative ideas to attack the accounts. They are creating a fake Twitter account of Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum. They are targeting the users by saying, “The Ethereum foundation is giving away 50,000 ETH. Apply quickly to gain profit.”
These types of malware links give access to scammers to attack user accounts. As the merge is just minutes away from happening, the company is alerting every user not to click the malicious links under the imposter social accounts and be safe from the attackers.
Peckshield, a blockchain technology platform, tweeted by stating “the merge” is going to happen within 4 hrs. The platform detected phishing sites that were targeting the event merge by sending malicious links to the customers.
Buterin stated that Ethereum platform users should be aware of cyber attackers. He said that, by clicking on unfamiliar links in social accounts may harm the user’s safety. He added that there is no such type of giveaway for “the merge”. And the company stated there is only one official account for Buterin, which is @VitalikButerin.
How to protect yourself from scammers?
This cyber attack is not new to the crypto world. Until now, there have been so many online attacks that investors and users have lost billions of dollars in those cyber attacks. To protect yourself from such attacks, just keep a few things in your mind.
- Be aware of fake social account users.
- Don’t click on any suspicious links until and unless it is officially announced.
- Stay away from phishing accounts or report them.
- The official accounts don’t share any private keys with anyone.
