Sorare set to roll out Major League Baseball Ethereum NFT fantasy game

Sorare’s Ethereum Influential and effective virtual soccer network has grown to become one of the top competitive blockchain-based games on the market, with a $4.3 billion worth. This season, the company hopes to apply that technique to a whole new sport: baseball.

Sorare said today that it has reached a deal with Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association to develop a new baseball fantasy sports game based on the American league. It’s Sorare’s first venture into a new sport since publishing their initial soccer game in 2001.

The MLB game will also sell and buy digital trading cards of top players, which will be reflected as Ethereum-based NFT artifacts. Users can enter their own NFT player cards into fantasy lineups and get value based on how well the professionals execute in actual MLB games. Moreover, Ryan Spoon, the company’s COO stated in a statement to Decrypt that the platform is for everyone.

Together with Sorare, sports items have been a big component of the NFT industry expansion. NBA Top Shot and Tom Brady’s Autograph program are two of the most well-known examples. The design for Sorare’s MLB card is still being polished. Spoon additionally says it will keep the strategy of existing soccer NFTs—with clear information and edition numbers—while reflecting the passion for baseball. Each MLB player will have the same overall number of NFT cards designed in different rarity levels. However, the exact quantity has yet to be determined.

The existing soccer game is a starter package that includes a free box of player cards that are not exchangeable NFTs. It is worth noting that  NFT cards are more useful for those wanting to win fantasy leagues and earn incentives. The MLB adventure is also described as a free-to-play game that does not necessitate the buying of NFTs.

While Sorare’s soccer game,  includes collaborations with roughly 250 teams from other foreign leagues, the baseball game will concentrate purely on Major League Baseball and its 30 teams.

Sorare claims to attract 1.8M monthly users

Sorare claims that its soccer game already has 1.8 million monthly users and generated $325 million in NFT trade volume in 2021. The company says that it will double that amount in 2022. Sorare was valued at $4.3 billion in September after a $680 million Series B fundraising round, as initially reported.

According to the company’s COO, Sorare will be able to hit a largely American audience by establishing a Major League Baseball game, even if in a sport with international talent and followers beyond North America.
